The wine route: discover the Hérault differently
South of France wine tour
Holidays in the Languedoc do not rhyme only with swimming and tanning !
The region is known for its fine sandy beaches but it is also a land of unrivalled vineyards. The discovery of the South and its culture is also done by the taste buds. In this article you will find the best vineyard walks to do just a few minutes from the Saint Cécile campsite.
Did you know that Languedoc has the largest vineyard in France? From the Massif Central to the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, Languedoc-Roussillon has 245,000 hectares of vines. Travelling through varied lands and landscapes, the Languedoc vineyard offers a range of rich wines with surprising aromas reminiscent of the flavours of the south.
Before being a campsite, Domaine Sainte Cécile was, moreover, a vineyard. This is reflected in the old buildings and the wooded green spaces of the campsite. Wine is not just a drink in the south of France, it is the vector of a culture and a terroir.
For enthusiasts and the curious, oenology tours are a good way, both fun and gourmet, to discover the wine-making history of Vias-Plage and its surroundings.
Exceptional white wines in the Thau region
The Thau region is a unique landscape where vineyards meet scrublands, Canal du Midi, lake and Mediterranean Sea. Here winegrowers and oyster farmers are kings. This is why the wines of this terroir are perfect with shellfish and fish. To taste the local specialties, choose a Picpoul de Pinet or a Côtes de Thau. To brighten up your aperitifs, choose a Muscat de Frontignan with slightly sweet notes.
The wines of the Canal du Midi
The Canal du Midi is the essential monument of Languedoc Roussillon! Linking the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean, the canal has enabled the development of wine in the region. Surrounded by nature and vineyards, this exceptional landscape has been classified as a World Heritage Site (UNESCO) since 1996. It is not surprising then that the wines produced around the canal are quality wines. Protected by a geographical indication, you will find the wines of the canal in only 13 villages.
The wines of the sea
Discover breath-taking landscapes where vineyards and the sea are one! From Marseillan-Plage to the black sandy beaches of Cap d'Agde, the wines of the Mediterranean will never cease to amaze you! Highlighted during Vinocap, the vineyards by the sea have no less than 3 PDOs (protected designation of origin) and 5 PGIs (protected geographical indication).
